The U.K. Short Term Study Visa allows a student to stay in the UK for up to 11 months to study an eligible course. Most commonly, this is an English Language.course which a student wishes to undertake at an accredited institution.
This type of UK Student Visa is commonly refused, however can easily be fixed in a re-application, should a student’s circumstances change. A UK Visa refusal letter always includes a reason, as to why it was refused.
See below the most common reasons why a visa is refused, due to mistakes within the application:
1
Not explaining (with evidence) why you want to study your intended course, in the U.K. For example, if you intend to study English in the UK, the caseworker for your visa would like to know why this is not possible in your home country?
2
Not showing ties to your home country when applying for the visa. One of the most common mistakes students make is not providing documentation, and explaining their ties to their home country. This is important as it shows the caseworker that you intend to go back after your course.
3
Not explaining large deposits / movements in your bank account statements that may raise red flags. A big reason for refusals are large deposits or withdrawals present on bank account statements. This ideally should be explained carefully in a covering letter to avoid refusals.
4
Not declaring sponsor documents. If for example a parent pays for the student’s tuition and living costs, this means that the parent is a ‘sponsor’. If you have a sponsor for your application, you must submit the required documentation on their behalf. This includes but is not limited to: proof of income of the sponsor, their bank statements, their ID, a sponsoring letter.
