Planning to visit the UK and wondering whether you are eligible to be paid for an engagement or an event?
A PPE allows an overseas professional, aged 18 or over, to enter the UK temporarily to undertake a specific, pre-arranged paid engagement directly related to their professional expertise, qualifications and main occupation overseas.
The engagement must be supported by a formal invitation from a UK-based organisation/client, declared in the visa application, and completed within the first month/first 30 days of entry.
Please note: this is not permission for general employment or ongoing work in the UK.

To give a lecture or lectures
To speak at a conference
As an academic
As a pilot examiner
Do you need to be invited to apply for the Standard Visitor Visa under Permitted Paid Engagement?
Yes, you should not apply for the visa if you have not been formally invited by a company or client based in the UK. You would need an official letter, with the contact details of the company or client.
The invitation must clearly explain why the individual has been selected, how the skills or expertise relates to the job, and exactly what the engagement will involve.
How long can I work for this type of visa?
The work must be completed within the first 30 days of your arrival. After this, you can spend time in the UK as part of the rest of your Visitor Visa duration, however you will no longer be permitted to work.
Can I visit the UK under the Permitted Paid Engagement category for business meetings?
No, business meetings are not permitted under this route. You can apply for a Business Visitor Visa instead. Please note: you are not allowed to be paid under the Business Visitor Visa route.
How do I know if my occupation falls under any of the permitted occupation categories?
