Can an online business with no physical location or office apply for the UK sponsor licence?

As an immigration law firm specializing in sponsor licences, we often get asked whether businesses need a physical office to apply for a sponsor licence. The good news is: you do not!

You can in fact apply for a sponsor licence if your business operates remotely as a virtual business system. In today’s digital world, many companies operate without a traditional office presence, and this is acceptable for the sponsorship application process.

However, there are a couple of important things to keep in mind:

  • If you do not have a physical office for your business, You must register a home address. This is where official correspondence will be sent, and it needs to be a legitimate, verifiable location. This should be the director's home address.

  • Keep in mind that compliance visits will have to take place at the home address given.

  • You will need to explain and show evidence in your application, as to why you cannot just hire a remote worker.

If you are thinking about sponsoring workers but are unsure how your virtual setup fits into the application process, get in touch with a sponsor licence expert for a free sponsor licence eligibility consultation.
